3 Steps to Keep Yourself Motivated

2016_01_17 Motivation

For many people, January is a great month to reflect previous year(s) and make new goals.
But along the time, it’s easy to forget the passion we had in January, and even feel guilty for not doing what we decided to do (that’s also why I think SMART-F approach I mentioned in the previous blog is important).

Then I wondered if we can keep ourselves constantly motivated somehow, maybe we can consider every month as January and remind us of the passion we had in that month. One of the best ways to do so is to keep looking at good quotes every day.

But you don’t want to look into quotes every day by searching. So here are three steps I recommend to motivate yourself effectively:

1. Use phone application
First, download quote application from your smartphone (you always carry)
I use three quote applications:
Daily Quotes (Works for me to get things started)
Buddha Quotes – Best Daily Buddhist Reminders (Good for reminding mindfulness and meditation)
Pinterest (It covers many topics including famous quotes)

2. Use notification system
Second, Set the best notification time depending on your schedule, so that you keep receiving it at the same time of each day.
I set my “Daily Quote” right after entering my work, and “Buddha Quotes” before going to bed for meditation and “Pinterest” in the weekend so that I can discover something interesting.

3. Make a list of your favorite quotes
In this way mentioned above, you get motivated every day, and you can also save your favorite ones to make a list of your selection (so that when you need them, you can look at your favorite all at once). If you don’t like the application by itself, you can change it, since there are tons of them based on specific topics as well.

If you are interested, please try these. Also, if you know other recommendation, please let me know.

Regarding the list of good quotes, I also came across relevant post: “101 Motivational Quotes to Start 2016 Off Right

In that, the following three quotes caught my interest, since they are not saying something special but seeing things a bit differently:
33.  “Nothing is impossible. The word itself says, ‘I’m possible!’ ” -Audrey Hepburn
90. “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.” -Albert Einstein
99. “The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little extra.” -Jimmy Johnson

This time, I learned that:

We all forget things, including passion and initial goal, but we can also prepare to keep ourselves motivated, and using quote application can help you to do so.
