This would be maybe impossible…

Judging from my previous experiences and my personality, I think there are quite a few things that I unconsciously think are impossible. Three months have already passed since I came to Mozambique in Southern Africa, and I have learned a lot. In this entry, I will share 3 examples of making the impossible possible in Mozambique.

Achieving a Ten-Year-long Dream and Language Learning at Lençóis in Brazil

🇬🇧English 🇯🇵日本語 🇪🇸Español 🇫🇷Français 🇧🇷Português

-One day, I will definitely go to this place-

More than 10 years ago, I saw a picture of Lençóis in Brazil, and I promised myself to see it in my eyes one day. It has been “one day” for long time as it was not easy to make it happen due to its limited season (June-Aug) and access (far from all the places I was based in).

This year, I had a chance to visit Chile in June, and despite remaining COVID-19 restriction, I decided to travel there. It was also for brushing up my language skill before landing at a new duty station (Mozambique, Portuguese speaking country just like Brazil). In this post, I would like to share my experience from traveler and language learner’s point of view.

How to relate yourself to the global problemsーWorld Refugee Day 2022

English日本語EspañolFrançais, Português

Today is just another day?

Probably “yes” to some people and “no” to some others, including specific groups.

The 20th of June is the World Refugee Day, and this year is something unique because of Ukrainian crisis which caught global attention. As is the case with most crisis, however, it’s been almost 5 months since the attack and we tend to take it for granted because we don’t relate this kind of global problem to “our own thing” as time goes by. And as you read this, there are so many things going on in the world besides the Ukrainian crisis.

As a person who has been working in global aid and refugee issue, in this post, I would like to provide some snapshots of global refugee situation to honor this day, and share some insights into how to relate global problems to our own things.

Highlights and Learning from short trip in Iceland

🇬🇧English, 🇯🇵日本語, 🇪🇸Español, 🇫🇷Français, 🇧🇷Português

-See Aurora.

It has been one of my life’s to-do-list items.

Considering several conditions to see it (places, season, weather, my availability, budget, equipment etc.), I decided to go to Iceland in April 2022 while I lived in Denmark.

Although the aurora season (until March-April without guarantee) was almost over and I could stay just for 3 nights, I decided to give it a try. In this entry, I will share some of highlights and learnings in Iceland with specific interests in food, culture, education and recommended places (and the outcome of aurora hunting).

Passing HSK 3 in 1 month after 3 years of absence since the decision to study Chinese

English日本語EspañolFrançais, Português

你明白我在写什么吗?

Although Chinese has been my “to-learn language” for several years, I haven’t been able to improve much simply because my level of motivation was not that high.

Having known myself, I knew I was not going to take actions to establish my Chinese study habit quite soon, so I just found registration info on the exam called “HSK”, and before thinking too much, I signed up for it and paid, so there would be no way but to study for passing.

The deadline was in 1 month, which was descent timeline (as opposed to X years). In this entry, I am sharing my journey, including what HSK is, why I took and how I worked on to pass it in 1 month.
